Kibworth school hall was full of lots of excited faces this morning and that wasn’t just the teachers! After many weeks of anticipation, the day had finally arrived- Year 6 were off to Castleton! With the prompt arrival of our carriages – Andrew’s Coach Company – it wasn’t long before we were winging our way up the M1 towards our destination. Chesterfield provided many ooos and aahhs as we drove through. Not at the town’s famous twisted church spire but at Pizza Hut and M&S food hall – maybe the approach of lunchtime had something to do with this! Soon we left the towns behind and ventured deep into the heart of the beautiful Peak District which, this time, understandably caused much excitement. After a little detour around some traffic works, we arrived at our ‘home’ for the week soon after midday. It was all action from this point out: lunches were quickly eaten; cases stowed in rooms; children were introduced to their instructors; and equipment was handed out. Now harnessed, helmeted and waterproofed up, it was time for the first activity. Many groups tested out their teamwork skills on the obstacle and problem-solving course while others tested out their raft making skills. The hallways were full of wet footprints afterwards so read into that what you may about how successful they were at this! Our first dinner did not disappoint – a feast of sausages, fish cakes and mash. After a long first day, we settled down with pjs, pillows and teddies in front of a film before bed. We all cannot wait to see what awaits for our first full day in Castleton.
