Tuesday 5th October
Considering the excitement of the first night in Castleton, all was quiet throughout the night and teachers were greeted by bleary eyes at the 7am wake up call. Following quick room inspections, (it’s amazing how much mess can be made in a day), we were welcomed by a full English breakfast including cereal and toast! Shortly after, the children then began their morning activities battling against the adverse weather condition. Children who were on the morning walk experienced rain and severe winds which forced their route to Back Tor rather than the intended Mam Tor. Weasling experienced similar conditions; however, once children were scrambling through the rocks and boulders they were in shelter albeit crawling through muddy puddles! After re-energising at lunch, we began our second activities and thankfully, even though we were all prepared and dressed in our waterproof clothes, we escaped the rain that was forecast! The raft building team had great fun getting wet and wild and taking over the drying room with all their sodden clothes and equipment! The children then enjoyed a Tuesday night roast dinner followed by yet another pudding! Having finished their first full day of activities the children were relieved to be able to shower, get in their pyjamas and gather in the lounge for a movie night with the snuggly blankets and teddies. We all look forward to another day with better weather forecast.
