Despite the mist that hung ominously over Hope Valley this morning, all children (and staff) were eager to make the most of their last full day at the Hollowford Centre. Fuelled up, the groups dispersed either on foot or by mini-bus to their destinations. As the morning progressed, the sun made an appearance and as if by magic, the mists lifted leaving another glorious day for our activities. Four groups scaled Mam Tor and Back Tor – did you know that 18 Mam Tors can fit inside Mount Everest? There were more bridges abseiled and rocks scrambled over. Back at base, the fish in the rafting lake were disturbed yet again as the children took to the water or should we say threw themselves into the water. The children were great at steering their rafts in a circle however not so much in a straight line!
By 5pm this evening, it was time to say a farewell to our instructors. Over the course of this week, they have guided our children through an amazing array of activities, supporting them and encouraging them to overcome many of their fears. They have developed their teamwork skills and it has been great to see so many of our children flourish under their care. As always, the Hollowford Centre staff have given Kibworth Primary another unforgettable experience.
The evening then gave us chance to celebrate our three birthdays! After candles were blown out and cake eaten, the children were then entertained by Mrs Pinborough and her uniquely tailored game of Bingo! We are hoping for another good night’s sleep and that the drying room manages to work its magic on our wet clothes! We will see you all tomorrow and apologise in advance for the smell that might be unleashed upon you when you open their suitcases – there was no keeping them out of the pond!
